No One Home A review of Courtesy Inn San Simeon
We booked the room before we left Wichita, Kansas realizing that we would not have much time in the room. We had tickets for the S.F. Giants game the night before and we had a tour for the Hearst Castle the next day. We left S.F. after the game and figured we would be at the room in time for a good nights rest. Along Hwy 1 our rental car had a flat tire. That took a considerable amount of time, and the road (while I'm sure was very scenic during the day at midnight it was just SLOW. We had difficulty finding the hotel and if not for some folks who worked at Hearst Castle taking us to the motel we would have been even later. Upon arriving at the office (around 2:00 a.m.) we rang the after hours buzzer and no one came. We stayed and knocked on a number of doors to try and raise anyone to no avail. We went accross the street to another motel and they said that they do not have night attendants and they didn't have a phone # either. We had already purchased our Hearst Castle tickets so we didn't want to go on, and after trying two or three hotels around we paid for another room. Because the room was booked on Hotwire we couldn't get a refund. The next morning we went to the motel and told them of our situation. Showed our confirmed reservation. They apologized and said that they couldn't refund the full amount as Hotwire took the funds and then paid them a partial payment. They did give us about 30% of what we had paid, but that along with the cost of the motel where we did say put us well over budget.
So, while I can't review the motel, I can warn anyone who maybe considering a late arrival.
