Nice view, shame about the food.. A review of Sol Princesa Dacil

This hotel is a good 'base' if you want to get out and about on the island. The top 3 floors are air conditioned, of a good standard, and maintained every day. Most of the staff are friendly, and my first impression was of a 'holiday camp' atmosphere. All it needed was Sua Pollard to give a 'Hi-di Hi' each morning really.

There are no fridges at all here as it states in some brochures and web sites, and unless you purchase your drinks in the evening from the bar, you may be asked to do so, even if you buy from the hotel shop (drinks not included in evening meal). I thought the fresh fruit (which I squeezed) in the morning was good, and kept me going in mornings; there is also a 'steak-house' very near to hotel which is a change if you want to sleep in and have brunch. Incidentally- the menu does not change from day to day accept at weekends, Sunday if I remmember, where they add steak to the selection, which is usually of pork chops, salamy, bacon, hot dogs, ham, gammon ect.. anything you like, as long as it's pig! lol And there is chicken too if you feel like a change. Then there is salad morning noon and night, and the piella.. enough said.

There are plenty of places though close by to eat out, and a little place we found helpful for going day trips just up the road. There is always spaces around the pool, and a good family atmosphere there. The entertainment we found good again, at weekends, otherwise it is all for the kids. Little things like the lift not working (specially if you are on the top floor) and the noise some nights of the local bars, and constant traffic can be annoying (get a pool view). The TV has a good selection though; and you can enjoy the view of Los Christianos at night- but only one at a time + no swinging any gerbills on the balcony. lol

The day trip we had to la Gomera was exellent value, and the dophin shows we saw on the island were amazing, worth the trip itself. I do hope the hotel can pick up and improve, but it would have to be shaken up completly downstairs, and a few exra's like a fridge and tea/coffee in the rooms to get four stars. Otherwise, worth the three star rating, at a good price.
