Nice room, dinner questionable value A review of L'Auberge Provencale Bed and Breakfast
We stayed at L'Auberge Provencale for one night in Sept 05. The room, at $160/night, was nice and homey, with vibrant coral colored walls and lovely high-thread count cotton sheets. A lovely bowl of fruit and two bottles of water were waiting for us in our room. The bathroom was clean but a bit cramped. The room air conditioner was adequate but noisy. Breakfast in the morning was delightful--a creative fruit appetizer followed by a delicious entree. Croissants and breads were excellent. Overall, the room was a good value.
We were a bit disappointed by dinner. It was a splurge for us to spend the more than $200 for two, and our expectations were high. My appetizer, the escargots, was the highlight of the meal. I'm still fantasizing about the unique tastes and textures presented in this small dish. The rest of the meal was good, but not outstanding. Every time I asked my husband what he thought of his many dishes, he'd respond "it's solid," his term for "fine." I felt the same. There were interesting flavors, but too many items came across as pedestrian. For the price, we felt the meal should have been more than "fine." I'd suggest checking out other dinner options--perhaps in Middleburg?
