Nice room but food dissappointing A review of ABode Canterbury
We stayed 2 nights at this hotel as it was the venue for our nephews wedding. Before booking I looked on their web site and saw that children under 12 stayed free when sharing with parents but when I asked for a family room i was told they do not have one and we would have to book 2 rooms, when I questioned them on this they came back and said they could put a bed settee in an enviable room at £170 a night which was better than 2 rooms at £140. We booked several months in advance and I was shocked to find that the hotel had charged £500 to my credit card straight away, turns out they had taken the deposit for the actual wedding from our card!!
The hotel was very modern inside and the room was of a good standard with a lovely bathroom and freestanding bath although space was tight with the extra beds for the children.
Breakfast was rather disappointing for a michelin star restaurant and on the second day they forgot about mine and I had to ask twice if it was comming.
The function suite for the wedding was very small and there was no direct access from the main hotel which meant several trips back and fore in blustery rain in our wedding outfits. The buffet meal was average.
The location is great but dificult to find by car and no car park close by. My husband had to leave during the reception to replace the parking ticket as they are only valid for 24hours.
