Nice place to stay! A review of The Marquette

I booked the Marquette on Priceline. I wanted to stay downtown so we would be close to the Metrodome for the Vikings/Giants game. Everything was SO expensive downtown so I decided to go onto Priceline to see what I could get. They booked me at the Marquette, which I was initially excited about due to the great deal I received ($70/night-regularly between $2-300/night). I went to trip advisor, which I normally visit before I travel, and I got really nervous about the room, seeing reviews that said it was "a piece of crap and very dirty." I called the hotel and they reassured me that it wasn't and that the rooms were clean and more on the upscale side of things. I couldn't cancel my room so I decided to just go with it. I was dreading what I would see all week. When we got there, we were greeted by some rather rude staff members who expected a large tip for carrying our luggage 20 feet even though we didn't ask them to. We also received several stares as we were walking through the hotel by people wearing expensive suits and so forth, as we were in our sports clothing, ready for the NFL game! However, the hotel itself was beautiful. It was anything special, I will agree with that, but it was clean and well kept and very ritzy in the lobby. We stayed on the executive floor, which you need a key to even get up to, and the room was really nice! Nothing was dirty or unkept. The beds were the most comfortable I have ever stayed in, as they had expensive pillow top mattresses. The steam bath was so relaxing and the bar was stocked. We had a beautiful view of the city from the 15th floor and it was connected to the Nicollet Mall, which is fun to walk around. It was nice to see something different for decor as well in our room, as the floral patterns really get old and drabby in most hotels. The hallways need some definite updating and remodeling, as they were peach in color and worn, but who cares. As long as the rooms are nice and clean, which they were! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Marquette. We travel A LOT and stay at 5 star resorts often and this hotel was nicer than one of the resorts we stayed in at Miami Beach. I am an EXTREMELY picky person when it comes to hotel rooms/resorts and their cleanliness. Take it from me....I would definitely recommend the Marquette!
