Nice Place, Not the Best Location A review of Blue Harbor Resort
Our first impression was that this brand new resort resembled the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in size and presence. It is an impressive sight when viewed from end of the pier just outside the facility. We stayed in a 4 bedroom condo that featured granite countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms, a spacious master bedroom and small deck off the living room. The accomodations were clean and there was enough room for 12 people. The housekeeping, however, was not what we expected. The housekeepers were cordial and asked what we wanted to be done if we were present. Apparently, the normal service primarily includes replacement of towels. Beds were not made nor sheets replaced. We were not aware of any vacuuming or cleaning done during our 4 day, 3 night stay. As you can imagine, things can get messy quickly with 12 people. The beach is fair at best. The weather was not warm enough even during our August stay to venture into the chilly Lake Michigan waters. The view includes a warehouse next door and a power plant with 2 tall smoke stacks. We were also concerned of reports of sewage dumping by nearby Milwaukee. The facility still has its kinks to work out. The sprinkler system outside our condo did overtime and created a small and smelly quagmire. Our front door would not close unless we forcefully closed it. The waterpark was average at best and intended more for younger children. We also had the buffet dinner by the main lobby. The food was average and there weren't many choices. We all agreed it didn't even compare to Old Country Buffet. All in all, it is a nice facility that needs to work hard to overcome its very average location.
