Nice place, good food, quite a drive from Yosemite A review of Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort
We hadn't visited Yosemite area and the Bug's price was right for us, especially for our 3 night visit. The room was clean, a little 70s safari retro. Hetchy Hetch I think. We went the week before July 4th -- great week to go as crowds hadn't arrived. Be careful about parking in Yosemite commuter lot -- don't wait until dark to find your car, especially if you don't have a flashlight. We made this mistake the first night -- a hard lesson! Back to the Bug -- the food at the Cafe was reasonably priced and in few cases (dinner) was above average. Depending when you order food (morning or evening), you may have a bit of a wait. The toughest thing for us was the drive to Yosemite from the Bug. There is a bus option, but it's still a ride, especially if you want to get to the park early and make the most of your time. We had no trouble driving on our own & parking within the park. This is probably not the case if you go in July or August. If you driving, fill up your tank before you get to Midpines or you will end up paying a small fortune when you have to use the last gas station near the park entrance. I checked on basic rooms at Lodge rooms in Yosemite after the fact and wish we had spent the extra $$ to stay there rather than having to make the trip to and from the Bug six times during our stay. Also, lots of activities originate at the Lodge in Yosemite so it might be a better choice depending on your finances and what you want to experience at Yosemite. Hikes at Yosemite are great -- we loved the Park and didn't find it overly crowded--although once it became July, you could see the numbers growing! Use the park bus shuttles when you can -- they are great and take you to the major points of interest.
