Nice place for the family A review of Holiday Inn Corpus Christi - Emerald Beach
My husband and I and our 4-year-old son stayed there in April 2004 for two nights. We stayed in a "bay view" room, which is part of a two-story annex to the hotel. My son loved the hotel--especially the play area, which has a McDonald's-like slide, plastic balls, etc. plus air hockey, ping-pong, a pool table and retro arcade games. The staff were very nice and accommodating, especially in the restaurant. Order off the menu for breakfast; it's very inexpensive and surprisingly good. Dinner menu is OK. The room was clean and in good shape, but the bed sheets could definitely have been higher quality. (They were clean.) The view was beautiful--especially during a storm, with big waves rolling in all night. We had to get the hotel to quiet some late-night revelers on the floor below us. The beach wasn't very clean--too many pieces of small debris in the sand; not good for barefoot small children. One plus is that it's shallow quite a ways out. Another option is the Corpus Christi city beach, about five minutes away. It's much bigger and no less clean. The beach rental guy at the Holiday Inn was surly, as another customer has noted. All in all, better than we expected for a Holiday Inn and an ideal place if you have children. Don't miss the USS Lexington aircraft carrier, five minutes away from the hotel: It's a fascinating exhibit. Also very worthwhile is the Texas State Aquarium, right next to the Lexington.
