Nice Old Hotel A review of Hotel Union Praha
My family and I enjoyed our two-night stay at the Union Hotel in Prague in Nov 2004. It is an older building with character and has been nicely updated. We stayed in room 208 which is a corner room on the front side of the hotel - bigger than the other rooms on the floor. The room was more the size of a suite even though it was classified as a double. It had a huge bathroom with a large tub and sink - though no stand up shower - and a separate bathroom with the toilet and another sink. The buffet breakfast was very satisfying and above average in quality. The waitresses were exceptionally efficient in keeping the tables cleared and supplying refills of coffee, tea or hot chocolate - much better than fancy five-star hotels I've stayed at. I would recommend getting down to breakfast before 0900 because the breakfast room does get full - though they have a spill over room near the bar. The various front desk receptionists on duty throughout our stay were all very friendly and helpful. The city tram line stops right outside the hotel making it very easy to get around town. The only negative was that the tram makes quite a bit of noise starting at about 0400 so if your room is on the side of the hotel near the tracks and you are a light sleeper, you may be disturbed by the noise. For us it was not a big deal given all the other positive aspects of this hotel. We booked a few days before our visit with Hotels and paid $95 per night for our double room (no extra charge for our 5 year old son). You may be able to do better with more advanced booking time through some of the other online hotel reservation services. The room rates include the breakfast buffet and free parking right in front of the hotel. For us it was well worth the money and we would definitely stay here again.
