Nice location, OK rooms... A review of UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center

The location of the hotel is on a canal & river surrounded by attractive old brick buildings (this was a textile mill town many years ago). Downtown Lowell is starting a gentrification process, so there are a few upscale restaurants and shops near the hotel. Also, there is a good Mexican restaurant across the street, and a few pizza & sub shops nearby for takeout. However, Lowell is still a little rough around the edges. As for the hotel, the lobby and rooms are decent, but need updating. There are sleeper-sofas in the King-bedded rooms which is nice, but the bathrooms are kind of small (but adequate), the furniture and carpeting a little worn, and the front doors don't keep out hallway noise all that well. Still, the rooms and beds are comfortable, and local calls and parking are free. Overall, if you get a good price here, it's a good value--ask for a canal view room.
