Nice Facade but don't dig too deep! A review of Hotel Silken Berlaymont Brussels
My personal view of this hotel is that it is too reliant on its modern stylish entrance/reception but can't seem to get the basic components of good service right (except for the staff who were very helpful and polite).
I stayed in this hotel recently when on a business trip which I extended over a weekend in order to do some sight seeing. My experience of the Dorint was quite poor. After booking through their website, I arrived to find no reservation had been made and had to rely on my confirmation email booking form which I took with me.
They were able to offer a room (smoking only) so it therefore wasn't very pleasant. Other than that, if you like dark pannelled but basic decor then you'll be fine.
I then discovered after trying to find the stairs down from my floor that the only exit door (the firedoor) was locked! I informed the reception staff but didn't have a chance to check if this had been sorted before I checked out.
I had a meal in their restaurant which although was very good - the service was appauling and my first course took approx 30-40 minutes to arrive even though the restaurant was half empty.
After reading the other review about the falling ceiling - I wasn't really surprised.
For my extended sight seeing days - I moved to another hotel which was fantastic.
