Nice, but not worth the price A review of The Grand Hotel Minneapolis - a Kimpton Hotel
My husband and I recently stayed at the Grand Hotel in Minneapolis for a wedding we were in town for. We booked an Executive Suite which was nice enough, but not nearly what I expected for the price ($280) or the pictures and descriptions on the web-site. The staff was very friendly, however, but nothing in the hotel seemed more than slightly above average. The room was a bit dreary with inadequate lighting and only a view of an office building; not too suprising given it's downtown location. Unfortunately, their idea of luxury over-sized marble bathrooms were a bit cold and uninviting with too many empty shelves, a rather small sink with no counter space even though there was plenty of room to have expanded it, a rather ordinary shower, and plenty of open space to encourage an annoying echo. Also disappointing was that while the bathroom was clearly large enough to include the web-site described large "soaking tub," our suite was without. The bedroom and sitting room furnishings were lovely, however, and the bed linens were nothing short of dreamy and helped lend to an excellent nights sleep, clearly a nice perk of staying in this luxury hotel. In all the hotel was nice, but even given the extra large room of over 500 square feet and high-class furnishings, I think I'd rather have a smaller, more cozy room given the accomodations and ammenaties weren't much different from the DoubleTree and Embassy Suites of the world at about half the price.
