Nice, but lacking amenities to earn it's pricetag A review of Beach House at Half Moon Bay

It's no doubt clean, modern and in a great location by the beach, but the Beach House lacks some of the classy amenities desired in upscale hotels.

We paid the $335 rack rate for an ocean view suite and found the room to be a good size, the bathroom to be clean and modern, the ocean breeze to be pleasant.

But here's what's lacking for a hotel trying to climb above the $300 pricepoint:

* pool is tiny and there were only three lounge chairs. Everyone else had to sit in white plastic chairs - the $7.99 Target variety.

* staff is pleasant but not that well informed about the local area and not as attentive as somewhere like the neighboring ritz.

* none of the little touches - there's a soda machine on the patio, not chilled water waiting for guests. C'mon, don't nickle and dime us on beverages.

* Room balconies are tiny

Overall a very nice hotel, but for spending this amount of money, i'd be tempted to try the Ritz or another local B&B before returning to the Beach House.
