Nice Building, Awful Staff A review of Hilton Garden Inn Austin Downtown/Convention Center
The clerk at check-in acted like I was bothering him. When I got to the room it was obvious someone had just taken a shower! There were wet towels strewn about and the bed was unmade. I thought someone else would walk in any minute and want to know what I was doing in their room. When I called the desk the same offensive clerk reacted like I was being a pain in the neck. They sent some towels up and told me I was registered there. Not a whiff of concern about the mysterious shower taker. Probably staff getting ready for a big date. My room was prepaid by the client, yet they tried to bill my incidental card anyway. Thats why I only have 100 dollars on that card. The three people I was travelling with all had the same problem. I walked past the desk several times and each time the guest was working out a billing problem. I paid my incidentals in cash yet they billed my card anyway. Seems double billing is a policy there. If 1 percent of the guests don't catch on it's found money. It's 3 blocks from the convention center, so I am reluctant to say I won't stay there again, but I will be eagle eyed next time. The building itself was good enough, but the staff all had an attitude problem. Personally, I don't expect fawning service, but I hate contempt. I mean, it is a business, Right? Thumbs down on the staff, considering the room rates.
