New and ~nice~ A review of Hilton Alexandria Old Town
I stayed here late-March of '02. 2-night (weekend) stay was about $265 including tax & parking. Nice, comfortable room; the taller than usual ceiling made the room feel larger than it was. But like another guest mentioned, we had trouble with the toilet in our room, too! We didn't dine at the hotel, but did go to the lounge once and would agree that it's a bit too noisy for 1-on-1 conversation. There was a lot we didn't see or use here (pool, gym, etc.) because we spent 75% of our time in DC (a quick 12-15 minute ride on the Metro and you were there) and the rest in Old Town Alexandria, at the extreme opposite end of King Street from the hotel. And though shuttle buses run on King nearly all the time, it was great to step off the Metro at night and be just a half-block from the hotel. But if you plan to spend most of your time in Old Town (closer to the Potomac), then bring your walking shoes... or get good at timing the shuttle bus. In-room amenities: the usual mini-bar, 19" TV and VCR, and I think there were data-jacks on the phone... but there was a stiff surcharge on any calls made from your room, so I used lobby pay-phones and brought a calling card with me.
