Needs Work A review of The Westin Pasadena
I stayed at this hotel June 09-11, 2004. The hotel was once a Doubletree Hotel. I got engage back then and stayed in room 444. It was a great experience! This time I stayed on the 12th floor. I am a SPG Gold member but was not given a room upgrade. I called the front desk since the room I got was tiny! The offered be another room but said that it was the same size. The hotel was not full and I noticed that some of the larger rooms were vacant. Very disappointing. The hotel is nice but nothing special. I remember it was a lot better back when it was a Doubletree. The had two bars but only one was open. The historic bar in the lobby never did open even though it was advertised as available in the hotel room guide. The food is okay. We had breakfast there. We chose to eat at a McCormick and Schmidts just across the garden terrace. Food prices were more reasonable there. one good thing about the hotel is that it is close (walking distance) to old town and all the shops and restaurants. The bell hop was very informative. Valet was very resonable ($13) and had our car ready when we went to retrieve it. I think the hotel would be great if the front desk staff was more helpful and the lobby bar was opened for their guests. Some areas of the hotel like the elevators can use a makeover. The pool is nice but small. The gym is okay but does not rate a $5 charge per person. I have stayed at other Westin's and Sheraton's that have much better gyms and pools without the extra charge.
