Needs some major renovations A review of Clarion Inn Historic Strasburg Inn
I just spent a weekend with my husband and 7-year-old daughter at the Netherlands Inn. On the positive side, the grounds were very attractive with lots of grassy areas for the adults to relax and children to run around, seating scattered throughout the property, a playground and a small but nice pool and hot tub area. The restaurant was excellent - one of the best salmon dinners I ever had, and pretty reasonably priced. Service was exceptional. They also have a pretty good children's menu. However, this very old hotel needs a major updating of the rooms and infrastructure. The first night, I turned on a lamp and it tripped the circuit breaker. We were without electricity for about 40 minutes waiting for a technician, as the front desk clerk had no idea where the circuit breakers were. It was impossible to get a warm shower as the water temperature kept changing. It was also impossible to regulate the room temperature as the air conditioner did not consistently blow the same temperature. In addition, there was no overhead lighting in the room, only a few small lamps which did not provide enough light for reading. Also, if you like to work out on vacation, don't be deceived by the advertisements of the brand new spa. While the spa itself is new, the excercise facility is a small, musty room with just one bike and treadmill. Overall, we liked the location, property and restaurant, but the hotel really needs some work.
