Needs Help A review of Embassy Suites Tampa - Downtown Convention Center
THE GOOD: This is a standard Embassy Suites in terms of its facilities. Nice spacious rooms with a comfortable bed. The complimentary breakfast was great (Jeffrey makes a mean ham and cheese omelet). The Manager's Special (complimentary drinks 5:30-7:30 each evening) was outstanding after a tough day conventioneering. The beer tap ran out twice during a weeklong stay. The sky bridge and trolley station were very convenient. Most staff were friendly. Response to an additional linen request was prompt.
THE BAD: Mandatory valet parking is slow. The driveway is narrow and dangerous. There was some minor construction debris still in the rooms. Maid service took all day, if ever, to arrive. The elevators were a bit slow. The breakfast eating and serving areas are somewhat cramped.
THE UGLY: Restaurant and room service were abysmal. Room service was slow and arrived once with no eating utensils, condiments, or the right beverages. In the restaurant we were served our water and had our order taken only to be ignored for over an hour as we waited for our food to arrive (It never did). We could see desserts and drinks in the display case / bar just a few feet away but couldn't get them to migrate to our table. When we complained the answer was that they were 100% full and it had been that way for weeks (not "I'm sorry). Tip: If your food service capacity is full, close the restaurant rather than continue to seat patrons who aren't going to get any food anyway. The waitress, host, and night manager were unresponsive and lacked authority to make anything right; i.e., no comp offer and refused to contact the GM. A call to the corporate office went unanswered and unreturned. No one followed up the following day until I button-holed the day manager during happy hour. He was polite and apologetic but offered no comp as well.
I'm sorry to say I was disappointed with this hotel. My previous experiences with Embassy Suites have all been outstanding. Perhaps they will get back on track after a bit more shaking down of this new property.
