Nature lover's paradise! A review of Zion Mountain Resort
I only found this place through the internet and read the other (4 or 5)reviews right here on TripAdvisor, so it was somewhat of an unknown.
We were pleasantly surprised at the whole layout, and especially the nice cabins! They are separated for privacy and brand new.
There are horses stabled right on the property (we walk by them every day) and, true to their advertising, there really is a wild buffalo herd on the 1000+ acre property which we saw several times.
We also saw mule deer in the meadow.
The highlight was the horseback riding, which takes you on a beautiful trail and, in our case, right along the buffalo herd!
There was a newborn colt and his mother which grazed about the property at will and we pet the friendly colt every day....a nice experience.
At night we heard coyotes howl, but then settled down to the quietest night's sleep in a long time...our cabin was a long way from the road.
The east side of Zion is perfect if you plan to travel to Bryce or Grand Canyon as well, as it is more convenient.
Staying in Springdale (the south end) seemed like it would have been too "commercial", as most rooms are located right on the highway in town.
The only down side was their restaurant....do not plan on eating here if you are looking for an elegant experience or a quick meal...you will get neither.
To be fair, they promote the grill as a down home, western experience, but the truth is they take forever to get anything done and seem highly disorganized. The food is good but be prepared to w-a-i-t......
I would stay here again, though, for sure!
