More than just a great location A review of Hotel Indigo Atlanta

Our weekend at the Hotel Indigo was a lovey experience. The building itself has been beautifully renovated in a relaxing contemporary nature motif, very different from next-door-neighbor Georgian's stuffy grand hotel feel. The floors, in both lobby area and guest rooms, are hardwood and lend an open "loft" feel to the hotel.

The guest rooms we saw were designed with the most relaxing color palette we had ever seen outside a bungalo at the shore. One room had a wall sized mural of a close-up of pieces of sea glass on sand, another room had a detail mural of blue cable knit. The bedside table had a cd player that had been loaded with a disc of soothing misic designed just for the hotel. The bed was plush and dreamy, a king with more pillows than we could ever need, smooth, soft sheets and a big puffy comforter.

The bath was, as previously stated, quite tiny. My tall husband had to be careful not to bump his head on the sink then leaving the toilet. While the room is small overall, the shower itself is large enough for 2 and has a teak stool for lounging under great water pressure. Provided toiletries were very nice (Gilchrist & Soames). A large, well lit vanity area with nearby electrical outlets made getting ready to go out very easy.

The location is amazing, directly across the street from the FOX and within walking distance of too much to mention here. That being said, non-locals might need to know that on weekend nights the street is popular with Atlanta's youth with cars equipped with stereo systems with lots of bass! If you don't plan to stay out late and want to turn in early, you might want to ask for a room on the backside of the building.

The Golden Bean provides Starbuck's in the morning and bistro-type entrees and great cocktails in the evening, all in a contemporary setting. Comfy seating, friendly service and great people watching opportunities from the patio or streetside windows make it a nice place to just hang out.

We did have a small problem with guests in another room being loud at 3am; security responded within 3 minutes from our calling the desk. The situation was handled, and the next day we were informed that the other guests were also staying another night and were offered a change of rooms. We were also given a discount off the price of our first night's stay. All was handled professionally and quickly.

Parking is something to be aware of. The hotel has only limited spaces in the connected garage; not nearly enough for the hotel's guest capacity. Unless you arrive and check in early, do not expect to get the advertised $17 day parking rate. The garage rate is $22 overnight. Not a huge difference, but it can be annoying to discover after the fact.

Overall a wonderful stay, and we do plan to do it again when in Atlanta.
