Mondrian, in comparison to Ians' Others A review of Mondrian Los Angeles

The Mondrian is nice for the public areas and the overall lobby atmosphere, but it seems to be missing something and you can't put a finger on exactly what.I've stayed at Ian's Hudson, Royalton and Paramount Hotels in NY and that most fabulous Delano in Miami Beach , all of which offered an experience more than just an average hotel stay. (I must say the staff at the Hudson was the best of any of these hotels listed above). Although the staff at Mondrian was ever so accommdating the overall stay was quite disappointing. The room being the major portion of this disappointment. It was comfortable, but seemed rather "cheap" and the color of the wood painted tables, chairs etc.. did not attempt to add any particular style or quality to the room, (it was some seafoam green). It seems like Pilippe Starck was on a style diet when he created this place. It's just not what I expected from Starck. After all, look at the Delano... that's why I say that LA was cheated when it comes to design and comparability to Schragers other outstanding Hotels. Mondrian is just "there", not much to speak of, just "there". On the other hand that Hudson in NYC is totally cool and has a great atmosphere. So I ask... Ian, what happened to Mondrian ? Cool as it is, it's just not up to par with the other outstanding Ian Schrager Hotels. Guess I will look around perhaps try someplace else when visiting LA next...
