Mold and noise A review of BEST WESTERN PLUS-Gateway Siesta Key

We made a reservation weeks ahead of time for a two-day stay in Sarasota. They put us in a room looking out on the parking lot and across from the back of a grocery store with a loud air conditioner.

The elevator to the second-floor room (two story motel--first floor drive up to door; elevator or stairs to second floor rooms) had a filthy rug and the smell was awful. We asked to move but no rooms available on the "garden view" side. The ceiling had mold on it. The room was clean, remodeled and otherwise OK, though very small, and would have been fine except for the offensive elevator, the noise and the moldy ceiling. We weren't looking for luxury--just clean and convenient to sites and beach since Sarasota was just a stop on our way home from a family wedding in Miami. Don't know if the ceiling was an isolated problem but the elevator was unacceptable. If staying at this hotel would make sure to get a room on other side of hotel.

We moved to the Hampton Inn which was less expensive and just what we were looking for. The room was spacious and comfortable.

We wrote Holiday Inn and they responded immediately and indicated that they would be contacting the hotel about the problems. They sent us a gift certificate to use at any of their hotels or restaurants.
