Mediocre and overpriced A review of Beach House at Half Moon Bay
The hotel had a nice location and the room was very nice... but for the price, I expected something special, and this was not it.
We had to wait for the single small elevator while a housekeeper took her cart up in the elevator - which was too small to handle anyone else along with the cart.
The "ocean view" looks out on a small harbor protected by a breakwater. No crashing waves - just tourist boats.
The room did not have the usual mini-bar. Instead, if you wanted something in your room, you could fill out an order form and take it to the front desk. No room service - in fact, no food service at all, besides the continental breakfast (the restaurant that previously delivered has gone out of business).
In a drawer of the desk, we found a Peninsula guidebook and some San Francisco information - but nothing about the nearby coast, towns, galleries, and shops. There was a printed list of local restaurants with one-line descriptions.
Shortly after we arrived, the room phone rang. It was the front desk telling me that they had been unable to get me a reservation at one of the local restaurants. I had not requested a reservation, but apparently another guest had - and the guy at the front desk got the rooms mixed up.
I don't want this to sound terrible... we had a nice, relaxing time. But next time I am in the area, I'll try someplace else.
