Marvellous time at the Marriott A review of Marriott Ghent Hotel

We took advantage of a last minute deal to stay in the #2 ranked TA hotel for Gent. I booked it direct with the hotel and found it to the usual high Marriott standard.

We were aware that the Gent Festival was happening the same day so when we arrived by car after taking the ferry from Hull to Brugge we found it really straight forward to park the car in a nearby 24hour garage for 10 Euro. We had planned to use the hotels car park at the same rate but there seemed little point in moving it 200meters closer.

The postal address for the hotel given on the official site and on TA is in a pedestrian area and so if like me you have satnav you may find it a little confusing. The actual hotel garage and main entrance is on Drabstaat. Once in reception the modern feel of this hotel became apparent. A spacious lobby with ample seating and that fantastic curved glazed roof. Check in was straight forward and within minutes we were in our room.

Measuring @25 by 15 feet the room was larger than most. A fabulous Queen size bed made up with quality cotton bedding and sumptuous duck feather and down pillows and Duvet. I felt that the room had also received a Feng Shui treatment as the mirror did not face the bed, no pictures above the bed etc, all in all a very relaxing atmosphere.

Also present were a full size ironing board and iron , mini bar stocked with soft drinks and a few snacks and a modern flat screen TV with numerous channels including BBC1 BBC2 and an English speaking news channel. The internet could also be accessed via the TV if you did not have equipment to take advantage of the WiFi facility in the room.

The bathroom was tiled in limestone and fitted with a modern suite with a shower over a bath.

Break fast was included in the price of our stay and consisted of a buffet in the hotel restaurant. A generous selection was available to cater for all tastes and was of very good quality.

Given the hotels location in the centre of the town and less than 200 meters from a sound stage constructed over the canal for the duration of the festival, those who are light sleepers should bear this in mind if staying during the annual event. Otherwise I would recommend this spotlessly clean modern vibrant hotel to all.

Good bits - modern stylish feel, cleanliness , location in the centre of town, size of rooms.

Could be better - Price of mini bar - 2.50 euro for a snickers bar?

Would I go back? - Without a second thought
