Marseilles is Okay A review of Marseilles Hotel
My wife and I stayed at the Marseilles from Oct 3 to Oct 5. The hotel wasn't as bad as some of the reviews that I have read made it seem. It is not the greatest place that I have stayed in, but it was adequate.
The lobby is very nice. The location of the Hotel is great. Check in was a breeze. You have to pay $12 per day to park your car in the gated parking which is across the street.
Now for the negatives. Their rooms could use some updating. I know that the Hotel is a little old, but they could stand to freshen up the look of the rooms. Not sure that will happen though, because it would require a complete renovation and cost a ton of money. I read someone else's review which said that pool needed to cleaned. I am sad to say that this was also the case while I was there to. My wife had taken swimming lessons so she could get in the water while we were on vacation. Unfortunately she was not able to test her new found swimming skills in their pool. The hotel also boast of having features such as an pool side bar. They do have the bar, but nobody was working it the entire time I was there. This may be due to fact that no one was in their swimming pool. I actually found out from another guest that they actually went to hotel next door to the Marseilles and hung at their pool and bar. It looked a lot nicer. It's kind of funny in hindsight. I originally was going to book a room at The Chesterfield, which is a hip and chic hotel in South Beach for about the same price that I payed at the Marseilles, but they don't have a pool, and my wife really wanted to stay a place with a pool so she could put her swimming lessons to use. And she was never able to get in the pool.
Overall I would say that the Marseille is a decent place to stay if you want something affordable in South Beach, and you are not going to be spending much time in the room. The rooms are clean and the staff is nice. And the location is good. If you can get a room for about $75 per night, it might be worth it. Whether I would stay there again would depend on the situation. We decided to stay there because we had planned on being out and about most of time there.
The only thing that I am kicking myself for is that I had enough money to stay almost anywhere that I wanted in South Beach, but I was trying to be frugal, so I went the inexspensive route. My wife and I visited the Loews hotel which was a few doors down from the Marseilles, and we were blown away by how beautiful it was. As a matter of fact we actually took a bunch of pictures in front of their fountain. Loews was a about $210 per night. I would stay there instead on my next trip.
