Luxury Beside the Lake A review of Lake Placid Lodge
My wife and I splurged and spent five sybaritic days and nights in a lakeside room at the Lake Placid Lodge a few years ago, and we'll never forget it. Some of the highlights: having morning coffee on the porch overlooking the misty lake; being given a complimentary bottle of champagne on our third day; reading and playing cards beside a roaring fire in the parlor; striking up a conversation in the bar with the inn's longtime bartender, a 1932 Olympian; warming ourselves next to a log fire beside the lake; a nightly fire in our room's fireplace; the feather bed; boating on the lake; taking the tram up Whiteface Mountain and riding the bobsled at the Olympic track; and the attentive service and great food in the dining room. Pricey yes, but great value. We recently received a beautiful hardcover book about the Lodge from the owners and intend to return at the earliest opportunity.
