Loved this hotel A review of Alma Hotel

my family and i stayed at this hotel Christmas week. it was just finished in Oct. 2006. i know others that have stayed here earlier mentioned that, being brand new, some kinks needed to be ironed out. well, in our opinion they have been. first of all, you can't beat the location. it is 2 blocks away from the Grand Market. there are resataurants galore up and down every street.

the staff was wonderful. they were very friendly and they would try to help in any way they could. we arrived around 10am and they were nice enough to give us our room early, instead of the usual 2-3pm check in.

and what a room.! we needed a triple. what we got was a nice size room -larger then most European rooms we have stayed in-with a full size bed and private bath with a shower/tub combo that had a spiral staircase in it to the room above that also had a full size bed and private bathroom. with shower only. It could have fit 2 people also, but they gave it to us for our daughter.

the entire hotel was very clean. everyone we met, from the person cleaning the rooms, to the breakfast staff, to the front desk was very friendly. the breakfast room was a good size and had a nice variety of foods: several types of bread which you could toast, several types of cereal, hard boiled eggs, various meats, cheese, and yogurts, and juices. they also had diabetic jams and jellys along witht the regular ones. coffee was already on the table in a sealed container, and there was also a variety of teas to choose from, along with steamed milk.

we stayed for 5 nights, then left for Brugge-since we were returning for one more night before our flight home we asked if we could leave some unnecessary luggage there for the three nights we would be away and they stored it with no problem.

there is always someone at the front desk. they also called a cab for us at 6 am for our ride to the airport for the flight home. we did however take the train in from the airport to the Central station when we arrived. it was less the 3 euros each for the tickets and the trip was 20 minutes or so into town. the hotel is within easy walking distance-maybe a 5 minute walk or so. we would have used the train back to the airport but it was 6am, still dark, and we had more bags coming home then what we started out with! the cab was 45 euros.

so all and all i would higly recommend this hotel. I don't think it could be beat for the price. we paid 87 euros per night.
