Loved staying at Barefoot Cay! A review of Barefoot Cay
My husband and I just returned from a vacation at Barefoot Cay, on Roatan (part of the Bay Islands of Honduras). We were there for three weeks and while the weather was a little iffy about half the time, Barefoot Cay is the best place on the island. We arrived late at night and were greeted with a basket of fruit in our bungalow--just right for a quick late night snack before retiring.
Milesse and John Kennedy are the owners and are wonderful hosts. They seemed to always be available and anxious to accommodate any requests. They have done a great deal of work to create a relaxing atmosphere on the Cay. With only two bungalows (and two more in progress), you really have a sense of peace and relaxation. Plus they were always willing to talk about the history and social climate of Roatan, and their experiences as new residents.
The bungalows are charming and very comfortable. You have a full kitchen, an extremely comfortable bed, and a generous sized bathroom. They keep the grounds clean and clear of the trash that can float in from mainland Honduras, and which is a general problem on Roatan. In addition, John keeps the pool absolutely sparkling. We heard comments from other visitors on how beautiful the pool was, and it definitely is the nicest pool we saw on the island.
Santos, the general manager, is also wonderful. He does so much around the Cay, as well as being a complete source of info on Roatan itself; such as where to go for different interests, giving us a harbor tour, and even allowing guests to rent his truck for excursions around the island.
Juana provided our daily housekeeping service and she was a delight. She was always smiling and made our bungalow so inviting with artistic displays of flowers and palm fronds. It's just one of the many touches Barefoot Cay provides its guests.
We wouldn't stay anywhere else but Barefoot Cay!
