Loved Shoal Bay Villas and Anguilla! A review of Shoal Bay Villas
My fiance and I just returned from our first visit to Shoal Bay Villas and Anguilla. This small property is ideally situated in the heart of Shoal Bay East, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. The location is great with plenty of fun beach bars with reasonably priced food and drinks within easy walking distance. There is good snorkeling right off the beach in front of the Hotel, Shoal Bay Divers next door, and Junior's glass bottom boat and water taxi comes by in the morning if you want to take an excursion. Our first room at Shoal Bay Villas was a poolside bed and bath with A/C. The room had a large bathroom, King bed, mini fridge, and cable TV. There was plenty of closet space and the big bathroom was a bonus. The room was on the small side, but we didn't spend that much time in there anyway! After four nights, we moved to an oceanfront studio. The room had two closets, a fully equipped kitchen, nice sitting area, dining table, Queen bed, cable TV, nice patio, good sized bathroom, and lovely view. I would highly reccomend this room, especially for longer stays. The Hotel provides cushioned lounges and beach umbrellas for their guests as well as beach towels. We enjoyed the pool, especially at the end of a long day on the beach. The staff at Shoal Bay Villas is great. Housekeeping does a wonderful job and everyone was friendly and helpful. Kathy, the Manager, made a point of walking out to the beach to meet us and ask us how are stay was going. A very nice touch. One could easily spend there whole trip at Shoal Bay, but don't. Rent a car and get out and see all that Anguilla has to offer.
Don't miss the Palm Grove(Nat's Place) at Junk's Hole for grilled lobster or crayfish and johnnycakes on a spectacular beach. Don't miss The Dune Preserve, singer Bankie Banks funky Bar and Restaurant on Rendezvous Bay. Be sure to get to Roy's Place in Crocus Bay and Roy's Bayside Grille in Sandy Ground for good reasonably priced food and drinks in an English Pub meets Anguilla atmosphere. Have breakfast at the Roadwell Cafe above Sandy Ground, great lemonade and coffee. Get pastries and bread from Le Petit Patisserie at Koal Keel or have a wonderful dinner in this Historic Home setting. Don't miss a dinner at The Straw Hat, a restaurant that serves great food over the water with views of St. Martin. We also loved Tasty's restaurant. We literally did not have a bad meal or bad service from any restaurant on Anguilla whether we spent $20.00 or $200.00 on a meal. There are also many art galleries spread out over the island that are certainly worth exploring.
All in all, Anguilla has a lot to offer beyond it's spectacular beaches. With it's wide range of accommadations, activities, dining, and lovely people, Anguilla has something for everyone! Living in the British Virgin Islands, my fiance and I have traveled to many islands in our region and we have found our new favorite! Will we return to Shoal Bay Villas and Anguilla? ABSOLUTELY!!!
