Loved it! A review of Beechwood Inn

We have stayed at many B&B's (Vancouver Island BC, Widbey Island,Maui, N. GA) and this is one of our new favorites. We felt the stress of living in the city and parents of a toddler just rolled off our shoulders the moment we walked on the front porch. We stayed in the Vineyard room and enjoyed it's cozy yet roomy size. The owners have done a great job of making the place look and feel classy without the typical "country/cheezy" clutter you find at some B&B's in Georgia. Every detail at Beechwood has been given careful thought and quality craftmanship is never compromised. After getting settled in our room we quickly made our way back to the front porch where the owner offered us some wonderful cheese, crackers and grapes along with Beechwood's own Chardonnay. We weren't expecting much from the wine since we have yet to find a GA wine we really enjoy, but we were surprised. It was different (not the typical oak taste), but good. The porch is more like an outdoor greatroom with a wonderful view of a mountain ridge. We found ourselves having a difficult time getting motivated to get up to go out to dinner. The owner recommended a couple restuarants in Clayton (not many to choose from) and recommended a great place called Buck Creek Tavern. The inside was more impressive than exterior and felt like I was in a small Colorado town tavern with its upscale rustic motif. We ordered the crawfish and crab dip, bourbon marinated ribeye and galic butter marinated sirlon. The ribeye was one of the best I had anywhere, (I had just eaten at Bone's in BUckhead 2 weeks ago and would call it comparable). The dessert was lame (brownie) and the waitress seemed to rush us a bit. We would go back to Buck Creek.

Breakfast was wonderful - fresh fruit, eggs bendict, hashbrowns, guava-orange juice and good coffee.

Loved the resident dog ...Scupper (Yellow Lab). Friendly, clean, and loved to be around us. He was well behaved and never once tried to jump on us. Also, the owners were very attentive and helpful.

The only thing that was not perfect at Beechwood (and nothing really is) was the distant traffic noise from the nearby highway I noticed once in awhile when sitting on the porch. It really didn't bother me since we also heard many birds, smooth jazz music in the backgound, cheese, crackers, wine, good converstation, the gentle breeze and rocking chairs. We can't wait to go back for one of their wine /dinner events.

Hope you enjoy your stay too!
