Loved it! Perfect blend of relaxation, sophistication, and fun A review of Compass Point Beach Resort
My wife and I just returned from Compass Point and we loved it. It was exactly what we were looking for: a quiet, relaxing and sophisticated spot, off the beaten track. It was a great place to relax during the day and their restaurant and bar are great places to hang out in the evening.
If you want to be away from the crowds and feel more like a local, the location is great. It's less than a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport, so you can maximize your vacation time. If you want to go into Cable Beach or downtown Nassau, the jitneys are a great, cheap and fun way to get around. They pass right in front of Compass Point, although they will stop for you even if you are walking down the road. A few times, we would walk down the road a bit and eventually a jitney would pass and we would flag it down and hop aboard. There's a great little fruit stand run by a local just about 100 yards down the road (towards Nassau) and another stand right next to it where a local guy makes fresch conch salad to order. The guy at the fruit stand will also fry up some conch fritters for you (and only for a buck!) - I loved them. A little further down the road is Traveller's Rest, which is a very local restaurant/bar that is nothing fancy but it is genuine bahamian. We loved this place too, and especially their Guava Cake. Cute little gift shop right next door too.
As for the location of the resort itself, it is fantastic. Perched right on the water. Absolutely beautiful. We loved sitting on the very comfortable padded lounges on the sun deck area next to the pool, which is perched just above the water, and a small beach. The beach is small, but it is still a great little place to dip into the water. There is a nice stone staircase that goes fromt he pool area right onto the little beach. And Love Beach right next door is a long beautiful secluded beach that is great for long relaxing strolls. Most of the times that we walked along Love Beach we literally had it all to ourselves.
We loved the outdoor bar and eating area. Great atmosphere and I can't believe there would be a better setting anywhere else. They even had a nice piano out there which just topped off the ambiance. The inside area of the restaurant is also very nicely decorated and comfortable. The little lounge seating area off the dining room was a favourite of ours for pre-dinner cocktails.
Our room, which was actually more like a cabin or cottage, was also great. We were right on the water and we literally fell asleep to the sound of waves. Double doors opened up to a good sized balconly with a breathtaking view. We loved sitting out here with our morning coffee. The decoration inside the room is nicely subdued and soothing, which is a nice change from the fun vibrant colours outside. Beautiful big windows with shutters. Our room was elevated and below it was a nice outdoor eating area with a little kitchenette with everything you would need if you wanted to prepare some food for yourself. There is a nice brand new grocery store (City Market) about a 10 minute jitney (bus) ride away.
We loved Compass Point and hope to return.
