Love the Applebutter Inn A review of Applebutter Inn
For the past few years, my job has required me to travel to Woodstock, Vermont twice a month and each visit requires an overnight stay. I am delighted to say that the Applebutter Inn, a B&B right outside the center of Woodstock, has been a home away from home for me for these trips.
The Inn is beautiful. A big white welcoming house in a lovely country environment. The inn is simply but elegantly decorated, and I find myself constantly asking the innkeepers where did you get that, and how did you do this -- because I want to create the same at home! I usually arrive mid-evening, and am always touched when Barbara and Michael, if not able to greet me in person will leave a handwritten note of greetings along with a plate of delectable just-baked brownines, cookies or cake that sit innocently in the front foyer just teasing me to try and pass them by. I cannot.
The den with a TV and fireplace is the perfect place to unwind. So cozy! Or I could choose to sit in the lovely parlor and admire the decor with the baby grand piano nearby - imagining myself someday playing it. Or if I want to read, I could pick out a book from the large selection in their bookcase and find a nook to curl up in. When it is time to retire I have no problem falling asleep in the large comfortable, four poster bed which offers crisp white linens and a big cushy comforter with wonderful pillows to snuggle into.
Breakfast is always a treat. I feel like I must be in a movie when I am eating breakfast I feel so grand! Lit candles, cut flowers, and a beautiful table setting. Lots of large windows in the room allow you to enjoy the lovely outdoor view, and the birds will entertain as they too enjoy breakfast at their feeders. First will come a bowl of freshly cut-up fruit; recently the berries coming directly from the inn's own garden. With this the best steaming hot coffee along with a just-out-of-the oven breakfast muffin of some delectable variety. The main course is always delicious so you better save room for it! A hearty omelet, or perfectly made-to-order scrambled eggs, or lemon pancakes, accompanied by sausage or bacon and sometimes homemade potato cakes. I have discovered that if I can manage to eat the entire breakfast, I won't eat again until dinner time.
What more could a guest ask for? The most special part of staying at the Applebutter Inn: the innkeepers themselves. They are wonderfully fun, interesting and energetic -- just a genuuinely nice couple. Barbara and Michael love what they do and it shows in every way. Their beautiful home; the way they spoil their guests and make them feel so comfortable. They have lots of information to share about the area and offer it freely so your trip never lacks for ideas and things to do. It is fun to watch them with the other guests because I can see how thrilled the visitors are to have found this place and I am reminded of my own luck! Their young assistant Maureen is just like them, delightful with loads of personality and her own great laugh.
This is a superior bed and breakfast which is above and beyond in every way.
