Love it more and more A review of Minnewaska Lodge
We've stayed here 5 times so far - in both summer and winter. We've fallen in love with the lodge as much as we've fallen in love with the New Paltz area, and for similar reasons. The Lodge abutts beautiful mountains, it's comfortable/cozy with an outdoors feel in design and materials, and the people (other lodgers and the staff) are friendly. The staff is also helpful, and we love the bowls of apples and afternoon cookies, as well as the more than ample Continental breakfasts (it's midway between Continental and a full offering). Actually, it's too good. I find it hard to stop myself from overeating. I agree with the dissenting reviews that walls could be more sound-proof, but it has yet to be a problem. I also agree that the few (two?) rooms adjacent to the close-by small parking lot are initially a dissapointment, but even when we had one of these rooms, it's really not a problem - we're out during the day, and we sleep with the curtains closed to keep the light out. The common areas (one indoor, one out) are large and comfortable. We even like just hanging out there talking, reading, playing games, and meeting others. There's also an exercise room with equipment, but we've yet to use it... We've so enjoyed our stays at the Lodge we have sent 5 other couples here in just the year since we discovered it. They have all thanked us! PS: It's a short easy drive from New Paltz, and on the way to the Minnewaska State Park Preserve.
