Look Elsewhere A review of San Mateo Marriott San Francisco Airport
I spent a day at the San Mateo Marriott while I was in town on business. I typically stay in downtown San Francisco, but due to the fact that I had a 7:00 a.m. meeting in San Mateo, it made sense for me to stay nearby. The property looks nice enough on approach, although since the hotel faces a highway, the view from inside the hotel is nothing special. Upon check-in, I was assigned a suite (which I requested), but I had to go back down to the desk to retrieve a package that had been awaiting my arrival (and should have been given me at check-in). Once back in my room, it was quickly apparent that the facilities are a bit tired: the furnishings were of average quality and somewhat worn, the bathroom was in need of renovation, with an old-style tub and laminate counter. The bedroom was small and lacked a closet (an armoire provided hanging facilities). The bed was OK, but not quite "heavenly". Although the hotel was close to my morning meeting, it is not especially convenient, as there is nothing within walking distance. Overall, my stay was disappointing: overrated by AAA at four-diamonds and overpriced during the week. Look elsewhere.
