Long past its prime A review of Seven Gables Inn
I used to live in Clayton, and returned on a 5 night visit. I chose this hotel becuase of the great location, however it is not the pleasant inn it once was. Rugs in hall and on stairs are dirty, worn and dangerously loose. Breakfast is sparse and area not clean, which is no doubt why the health dept. has given it a B rating. Basics in room are overlooked. Had to ask to be given a box of kleenex, and when it ran out, no refill was given! Ditto for toilet paper! Lighting in room is poor, and we could hear everything going on in neighboring room. TV reception was very poor. The promised chocolate with turn down service appeared only 2 of 5 nights; there really was no turn down service.
Room was not vaccummed during our stay. Bathrom floor was not cleaned, either. Dinner area has tasty food, but is in need of a good dusting.
Old fashioned room keys are not secure; any hardware store will make a copy for you, and they even have the room number printed on them, to help a thief find your room! I could go on, but you get the idea.
Location is good, but there are far better choices in Clayton.
