Location, Location, Location A review of Kahler Grand Hotel
Well, we had an entirely different experience than the Sept. 30, 2003 review. If you are visiting Rochester for the purpose of visiting the Mayo Clinic- Gonda, Eisenberg, Hilton, Siebens, Charlton, Plummer or Mayo Buildings, you can't beat the convenience of the Kahler Grand Hotel. We booked a standard room (non-smoking) with 2 double beds for 3 adults through Expedia for $80.00 plus taxes and fees for a total of $91.00 for 1 night. Yes, it is an old hotel. Yes, the rooms are on the smaller side. Yet, we had a room that was quiet, with comfortable beds and pillows with up-dated carpeting, up-dated cherry furniture. And it was clean. The bathroom had plenty of towels, the bathtub had a pulsating shower head with plenty of hot water. And the bathroom was clean. There was a large closet with an ironing board, iron and hairdryer provided. There is a good-sized pool, hot tub, exercise room on the 11th floor of the hotel. There is a Starbucks on the corner of the hotel. If you are planning to stay for an extended time, though, and need parking, that could add up. The attached parking garage is $9/day if you are a Kahler guest. If you will be at the St. Mary's Building of Mayo, you should probably reserve rooms in the 1100 block of 2nd Street SW which is west of the Kahler Grand. There are a couple of good places directly across from St. Mary's Building. Springhill Suites and Staybridge Suites are new, roomy and provide free parking.
