Liked The Continental Inn A review of Continental Inn
My wife and I got away from it all as first-time visitors to the Continental Inn, during an off-season fall weekend. Paid extra for an Oceanfront room, which does provide 2 good-sized windows facing the Atlantic Ocean, in addition to a small side window facing the pool/courtyard. It would have been a drag to only have a side window. Great access to a very very small but nice beach (my standard is Panama City/Fort Walton - if you are looking for beaches like that, don't come to the Keys!) Good beach terrace for laying out and listening to the waves. This might be too crowded prime season but was perfect off-season. My wife and I are not picky when it comes to decor and furnishings, but are sticklers on cleanliness, and always a little anxious about this when traveling to new places. The room was a bit dated but was not dirty or grubby, and the linens, towels and bedspreads seemed acceptable. Surfaces did not have that unsettling "sticky" feeling you sometimes find at a beach place. The small kitchen seemed clean but we never used it. We were able to relax, and really enjoyed ourselves. The office staff was young and friendly, but not particularly knowledgeable, and therefore not particularly helpful in answering questions. The office is only open from 9-5, so if you don't plan well, you are stuck. If I wanted 5-star service I would stay at a 5-star hotel and pay for it. This place was perfect for a getaway, and (this says it all) my wife wants to know when we are going to go back.
