Let down for a 4 star A review of Floris Avenue Hotel
We flew Ryanair to Brussels and then got the connecting bus from the airport straight to the Train station. We decided to walk to the hotel which took about ten minutes. We were a little dubious as we walked there as it seemed to be the rougher area of Brussels. The hotel was on the edge of this and the centre of the city with a ten minute walk to the shops & museums. The hotel was clean with pleasent decor and we got a huge room (almost too big for the amount of furniture- not very cosy!) But it was clean and the bathroom was lovely. After eating dinner in town we decided to come back to the hotel and have a drink in the bar- bad idea! There was no bar! We took the elevator down the basement where we were told it was and the lights were off, what looked like where the bar was meant to be was empty of all alcohol- just a few glasses on the shelf! I am not sure as it was in January it was out of season but we ended up breaking into the mini bar in the room. The breakfast was a let down- nice croissants and pastries but the bacon and sausages were stomach turning- sweetcorn fell out my sausage. And there was no milk for the tea/coffee or cereal for that matter and there was no staff at all so I settled for the raspberry tea where no milk was required.
For Ryanair travellers beware- the bus to the airport never turned up!! Along with 10 other people stranded we ended up having to give into the taxi drivers that had been hussling us and pay 100euros to get to the airport- only to be told it was too late! We couldnt get on the plane and they refused to believe that the bus hadnt turned up! So we ended up having to stay a night in a local hotel and pay for another flight the next day! They accepted no responsibilty and ended up spending an extra £250 to get home!
We will NOT be returning to Brussels! But if you do want to go the Floris Avenue is a nice place to rest your head but dont expect any other facilities.
