La Quinta - Budget -Yes! Luxury - No! A review of La Quinta Inn Miami Airport North
Having cancelled our reservation at Baymont Cutler Ridge hotel thanks to the helpful reviews posted on this site. We plumped for La Quinta Inn, next to Miami International Airport.
La Quinta Inn is a no frills Inn. Well located near the airport, within 10 to 15 minutes by car (Although we did have GPS!) We stayed there for 11 nights which is a long stay for any airport hotel. There are a range of eateries next to the hotel (Wendys, McDonalds, Dennies (Avoid) & Subway) Back to La Quinta, the weak point for the hotel was it's staff, let me explain! We had reserved 2 non smoking rooms (3 of us in the party), however the person who checked us in must have been blind or had just started as in fact she gave us 2 smoking rooms. (Non smoking rooms where not available) However, they were next to each other though so we'll give her that. We had to deal with the reception regarding two maintenance issues in our room. The first (A faulty light) was fixed once reported, the second was not. The second being a hand towel rail which had fallen with the weight of the towels. Was the housekeeping department blind each day? Was anyone checking the room for maintenance issues?
I personally found the staff on reception to be not exactly rude but not at all interested in what I had to say. It was like I was bothering them. Also the vendors near reception where switched off or out of order for the second week of our trip. (No worries there is a 24hr convienience store across the car park).
The pool is well located, but we think it needs to be cleaned a little. But good overall. So in conclusion, if you need a no frills hotel next to the airport La Quinta is a good bet. If you want luxury or top service look elsewhere.
