Kennebunk Inn, More Delapidated Than Charming A review of Kennebunk Inn

From the outside, the Kennebunk Inn in Kennebunk Maine, looks like a charming old inn. Well, it's old, but the charm has faded long ago along with the carpets, paint, and wallpaper. We've stayed in B&Bs/hotels all over the world, and while this was not the worst one, it certainly needs a lot of TLC. We booked it based on the reviews in a Maine guidebook, and if hadn't been the last two nights of our trip, we would have made other arrangements after the first night. Bathroom floor was dirty, wallpaper peeling, overhead exposed pipes filthy...you get the picture. The food was ok, but nothing near what you'd expect from culinary institute graduates. What a disppointment. If you travel to the other end of the coast, try the Peacock House in Lubec....also old, but with true charm at a fraction of the cost, and hosts who care about your comfort.
