Just back - had a great time! A review of Grand Lucayan, Bahamas
My husband and I just got back from Our Lucaya and we had a great time. I was a little skeptical since I had seen some bad reviews. We stayed for 3 nights and I can give you a few tips. Yes, the food at Our Lucaya is overpriced and not very good. Go across the street to the Port Lucaya marketplace for most of your meals. It's only a 5 minute walk at the most. There are many restaurants to choose from and the prices are much better - Fat Man's Nephew and Carribean Cafe were good for dinner. The only places I recommend at Our Lucaya are Churchill's Chop House for dinner - we both had prime rib w/jumbo potato, creamed spinach and a bottle of wine for $105 including tip and also Barracuda's breakfast buffet was great, but you must be very hungry. If you like nightlife Count Basie Square at the markeplace is fun. They had limbo dancing, karaoke, dj music and there are 3 or 4 bars surrounding the square that are not too expensive. The drinks at Our Lucaya are expensive ($7 for mixed drinks, $5 for beers). Bring your own cooler and cup and buy your liquor from the duty free store across the street. Much cheaper!
