Just average A review of Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa

We spent 5 nights at the hotel on our 2nd island stop (first was Maui Wailea Marriott), and I must say that I was not as impressed with this hotel. First, when we arrived at 4:30 p.m. (after a not-so-direct flight from Maui/Honolulu/Hilo), only one of our two rooms was ready.

It took more than 3 HOURS for the other one to be "cleaned". When we finally got into the room, one of the lights was broken, as well as the in-room safe. These things were rectified the next day. My MIL's room that was a "double uprade" featured an ocean view... directly over a construction site. Ours overlooked the pool area - not a good thing when a pool is open 24 hours - the sound traveled very well up to our 6th floor room.

But, as for a hotel that has undergone a recent renovation, you'd think they could have nicer linens. Our blankets had a few holes in them, and the sheets consistently had stains of some sort on them. I realize that many people come through these places, but please throw out the stained sheets! There were a few days when the cleaning staff didn't get around to our room until late afternoon - a little irritating when you come back to find that you have no clean towels to use. I'd also suggest that they add some more laundry facilities. The only have ONE with 3 washers/dryers - the line on the night I was there to do a few things was HUGE!

Another drawback that we were unaware of when making our plans - the distance to other areas. It was at least a 40 minute drive to Kona and Waimea. There are some shops & restaurants directly across from the hotel, but these were mostly expensive. A lot of the snorkeling/boat tours start in Kona, so it was always a hassle to get there on time - especially in traffic.

I did love the variety of things to do on the Big Island, but I think I'll have to research another place to stay next time.
