It was TERRIBLE!!! Don't waste your vacation there A review of Safety Harbor Resort and Spa
I just went to the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa last week. (March 24-29,2002) Our first room was old, smelly, and had cob webs in the air filter. It smelled musty and humid. We told them and they moved us to the most resent building to be remodled. It was a little better but not much. (Still dirty filters)It still smelled. The place was built in 1930 and that was quite evident. The carpets in the halls were worn and they had put low cheap dropped ceilings.
At night we couldn't sleep because of the loud noise the air conditioner made. Then we were awakened at 7:30 by an idiot outside our window with a leaf blower or workmen in the hall outside our door pounding and banging.
We were told on the phone our teens could use the facilities. (13 and 15) When we tried to take a fitness class, we were drilled on the fact that they MUST be 16 to do anything. My son will be 16 in a few months. He told them he was 16 and still used the hot tub once, but we felt so uncomfortable we didn't even attempt to use them because of the constant harrasssment by their staff.
The facilities are all used by locals who are in a click. I felt like an outsider when I did a class. The entire spa is in a basement.
The pool had no one taking drink orders. They had one girl waiting on everyone and cooking the burgers. I waited for 45 minutes for drinks and lunch. Then I paid $8 a burger...no fries.
I hope this helps anyone who may be planning a trip there. I have stayed at the Ihilani in Hawaii. I expected something similar. It was not.
