Improving the odds A review of Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport - Burlingame

To expand on a couple of the previous comments, the chances of getting a good room is really about 1 in 4. We stayed there 3 nights in August, 2004 for a conference, followed by 1 night several days later after a side trip further north. Some of the rooms have fridges, some do not. If you are staying longer than one night, bring a water filter or plan on taking a trip to the local Safeway, about 6 blocks away. This Hyatt (like most) currently charges $5 for a 1-liter bottle of drinking water. This is highway robbery.

To get a decent room facing the bay, be sure to insist on a bay-view room. These will be *odd-numbered* rooms in the range of 1 to 51 on each floor. (We were in 6009 the first visit, that is, Room 9 on the sixth floor. The second visit was room 7043, Room 43 on the seventh floor. You get the idea.)

The lower the room number, the closer you are to the elevator. As a previous reviewer mentioned, this is a big atrium-styled hotel with only 1 bank of elevators and, trust me, room 7043 was quite a hike from the "Lift."

On a side note; Rooms 1-25 face the bay in a northeastern direction, giving you a good view of SFO airport and a distant view of downtown SF, the Bay Bridge and Oakland, fog willing. Rooms 27-51 face the bay in a southeastern direction, giving you a glimpse of part of the San Mateo bridge, several other hotels and a bit of Hwy 101.
