If you have to stay in Waikiki the Waikiki Beachcomber is good value. A review of Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber Resort Hotel
We spent the Christmas Holidays 2003 here. The staff was very polite, helpful, and promptly upgraded us to a partial ocean view when our room was not ready. We actually had a decent view of the ocean from the 14th floor. We are a family of four and a room with two doubles and a rollaway was tight. The room was clean and nicely furnished. There is no tub only a stall shower and the sliding bathroom door was very noisey. Having a quiet refrigerator was a blessing. The in room tea and coffee are not free, and there is a daily charge for using the safe so we didn't. Located in the heart of Waikiki our sliding glass door was closed when we were there to avoid street and city noise. After one day on Waikiki Beach we elected to go to the north shore or the western beaches which were prettier and far less crowded. If we didn't have our chairs and towels in place on Waikiki by 8am we had to sandwich ourselves between existing sunbathers. Surfing at Waikiki was good either early or late. In the evening we felt like we were in Times Sq.
Waikiki is full of shoppers, gawkers and hawkers. Try another island if you are looking for paradise.
