If you aren't ready for guests, don't take reservations A review of Harborside Hotel & Marina
With so many places to stay in Bar Harbor, it was difficult for me to make a decision. I booked my room at the Harborside online and noticed that there was alot of confusion with my correspondence with the hotel and also that they posted dramatically different rates on their website whether you were looking at the flash or html version. From reading previous reviews I was aware that they had just undergone a major remodel only I assumed that the problems in August of last year would have been taken care of by the end of May. Frankly the place was not ready to house guests. When we arrived there was no electricity in the room we were staying. It took 3 different rooms to get us to one that didn't smell like drywall and had electricity. What little time we spent in the room we spent watching construction on the pool. I think this place is going to be very nice with one of the best locations in town but call first and confirm that they are done with construction or be willing to suffer. No information available in the hotel room, I don't even think there was a phone book. One of the rooms we tried out didn't even have all of the furniture. It was definitely an adventure and I feel really sorry for those folks coming the days after we left for an enjoyable memorial day weekend with all of the hotel's lack of preparation.
