I would not stay here again A review of Xanadu Beach Resort and Marina

In May 2002 I lodged at 3 different hotels during a 9 day stay on Grand Island. Xanadu was my second hotel destination.

Right now the tower is under renovation. From the looks of it, it will not be finished for a LONG time. In addition to the tower, there is a 3 story lodge next to it. This is where all the guests seem to be staying currently. There are not many (guests)! I found the hotel to be secluded and deserted.

The rooms are nice and adequate. This was the best feature of the hotel. The pool is nice but frequently looked dirty. The beach is a short walk away from the lodge on the property. Chair rental available, and a couple of shacks selling souvenirs. I found some very good snorkling off shore, but it was quite a swim.

The beach side grill was only featuring 3 or so items, I tired quickly of burger, cheeseburger, or hotdog. The only other food on the property was the hotel restaurant which was not any better. 3 or 4 selections, over priced and poorly prepared. There is absolutely nothing to do here at night.

NOTHING is within walking distance of this hotel. You will cab everywhere, minimum of $10-15 one way USD.

One a positive note -- there is an EXCELLENT dive shop on the premise. I recomend diving with Xanadu dive shop, even if you do not stay at this hotel. They were excellent! Low key, casual, run on 'island time', but fun, professional, and went to great dive sites and laughed a lot! See Chris, Tevito or James -- great guys!

Final thought - I was booked to stay at Xanadu several days but after 2 days I couldn't stand it any more and I got a place at Pt. Lucaya Resort and Yacht club for the remainder of my stay.
