I won't be going back. A review of Hotel Monte Carlo
I can honestly say this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. My wife and I went to OC for a week in May of 2002. From the time we checked in until the time we left (early) we had problems with the room and the staff.
When we arrived we were suprised how nice the hotel looked from the outside. But once we got into the lobby, which is smaller than some rooms I've stayed in, we noticed that this hotel was not up to our expectations. Check-in went smoothly, but once we got into our room we noticed that the toilet wouldn't flush. We went back to the front desk to tell them about the problem and also informed them that we were going out for the rest of the afternoon so someone could fix the toilet anytime in the next 3-4 hours. We got back to our room, guess what, NO ONE had been there yet. I called the front desk again, told them about the problem, they said someone would be right up, waited another hour. We decided to go out for the evening so I told the staff in the lobby that I would be back by 10 or 11. It took about 7 hours but the toilet was finally fixed.
Next problem, we requested a non-smoking room but they gave us a smoking room. Not a serious problem, but still a little annoying.
Finally, the last and most unappealing aspect of this hotel was that everytime we left or entered the building several of the staff members were standing in the doorway smoking. I don't mind people who smoke, but when I have to ask 2 and 3 people to move out of my way so I can go into the building, then have to walk through a smoke screen to get in I get a little upset. We had enough and decided to shorten our stay and left early. I asked to speak to the manager several times, he/she was never available. The Monte Carlo left a bad taste in our mouths and I think we unfairly blamed Ocean City. We haven't been back to OC since this trip, going to Myrtle Beach instead. But I think it is time to give OC another chance. I will not be going back to the Monte Carlo this time, or ever.
