Hotels like this only will not receive repeat business A review of The Sagamore
My family of four and our friends (family of three) stayed at this hotel for the 2004 Labor Day weekend. Like other customers who have submitted reviews, we were very surprised at the additional service charge of $6 per person per night (not listed on the hotel's website). There was also an extra charge of $50 per child per night. One could understand an additional charge per child if breakfast was included in the room charge, but no that was not the case. For a two night stay, our bill amounted to $1800!
The absolute worst feature of the hotel was its staff. There was no visible management in the main lodge. And when hotel staff were in view, they were untrained and doing something ill-timed, like vaccuming a lobby area full of guests! At the rates the hotel charges, it should have fabulous, courteous and well-trained staff. Instead the hotel has concierge staff with no idea about local restaurants because they have never been to at any of them, recreation staff at the lakefront that would rather talk among themselves than assist paying customers and staff that take 2 hours to serve pre-prepared lunch sandwiches in plastic containers to customers sitting lake-side. We had difficulty obtaining a dinner reservation at Trillium, the main dining room. Funny thing was, when we finally obtained the reservation and went to dinner, the dining room was only 1/2 full! Where is management?
We travel often, in the U.S. and abroad. We give repeat business to many hotels. This will not be one of them.
