Hotel inside a Surf Store? Avoid unless a surfer under 25..... A review of Four Points by Sheraton Cocoa Beach

We normally stay at the pet-friendly La Quinta when we visit CB, but decided to try the new colorful Sheraton, since it had a higher rating and was also pet-friendly. I called the hotel directly to ask for a more complete description since that on their website was very scanty and had only one exterior photo. I was told it was close to the Ron Jon's, had a surfer motif, and was a high quality hotel. It does indeed have a surf motif, in fact, the lobby IS a surf store (Surf Island?-across street from Ron Jon's) with a few couches and a reception desk. You drive into the surf store's free public parking garage to check in. Half of the hotel room windows face INTO the surf store. Plus, ALL rooms can be accessed from the public garage. We had to park on the 4th floor of the parking garage, then go down to the first floor to check in, then go back up. Enroute we passed clumps of kids drinking beer and smoking. The surf store is a local, teenager hangout and it extends into the hotel. Had we not had a pet and paid already, we would have left immediately.

Our reservations were incorrect (smoking, queen) instead of non-smoking, king. The desk attendant (tatooed with earrings) insisted that the reservation was correct, but was at least able to move us to a non-smoking room. On the positive side, there is a Starbucks and a cool aquarium in their restaurant (BUT both are on the ground floor of the huge surf store) plus the room was new and clean. But that's about it. The room was very small, basic, and uninspired. Now for the so-called "pool". The pool lies inbetween the entrance and exit of the public parking garage on the ground level, surrounded by high gates, concrete, and constant car traffic. Exhust smell permeate the air. Plus, it's filthy. I wouldn't dream of swimming in it.

I would recommend this hotel to 25 and under surfers, but certainly not to anyone else. La Quinta is dog-friendly and much more suitable for adults.
